Tis the season right?

We all hope to marry someone "who makes us a better person," along with many other things. I have to say I did marry this person. Each day my husband touches my heart with how "good" he truly is. He's not perfect of course, because none of us are, but he tries always to be good, see good and do good. This Christmas he asked for only gifts that give back when they are purchased. Of course I could donate the money I plan to use for his gifts to organizations but by buying a tangible gift you always promote awareness of what you have supported. This is what makes it even more important to my husband.

Now we knew of a few companies that did this sort of thing but I needed more and I happily took the mission to find them. In researching this, I realized just how hard it was to come by these type of companies/organizations. Because it was challenging for me to find them, I decided to post about it, in hopes that when others search for this, they find my post to help them.

Here are some of the great companies.

Some plans come undone...

This seems to be the theme of our lives lately but it also fit in to the semi decorating reno I wanted to do in our downstairs bathroom/laundry room. And see that was the question, is it a bathroom or is it a laundry room or heck, is it both? I decided to embrace it and decorate around it being a laundry room. I planned on painting the walls gray and one day I will get around to it. But for now I just used the decorations I had come up with to change it up a bit. Here is the before. And the after... We removed the verticals and hung a valance that we had, we had changed the light fixture months ago to make it flow better with the one above the sink. We also changed the hardware on all the cabinets to silver instead of bronze. We also added a shelf to go above the washer and dryer. This way all the soap, fabric softener and bounce sheets had a new home. I then added decorations that went with the theme of a laundry room. Believe it or not this old washboard was in our shed. Looks like ...

Tea bag magic

Don't mind this super old picture of our home. This was when we first moved in but I needed to show the coloring of the chair when it was first purchased. We bought this chair from Ikea when we first purchased our home. It was just okay to me but it fit where I wanted so I worked with it for a while. I played around with different pillows and blankets for the chair but nothing ever really felt right. Until recently, when I decided to take off the bottom cushion cover and dye it with tea bags. I have done the application twice and I think I have finally gotten it to the desired coloring. Take a look. Original 1st application 2nd application Another view So maybe now it will feel a bit better in the room. Not sure if I will go for a third application or change up the New York pillow.

Family

I began to write a posting on July 17, before we knew what God had planned for our sweet Kim.... Kim was taken home that evening to heaven. My entire family is in shock. As I am writing this, tears are running down my face.... Please sweet Jesus watch over Kim, she is safe now with you and is in no pain. Please watch over our family, heal our hearts as we keep Kim alive within ourselves.: "I don't have a very large extended family. Some may think it is, but in reality, it's truly not. I have a few aunts, a few uncles and a few cousins. Most live in different states and many times, communication is sparse. But we are all bonded, in an unspoken way. When one of us is in need, we all speak up and rally. My cousin Kim lives in North Carolina. I have not seen her in "real life" in many years. Maybe the last time was my wedding ? ! But we keep up on each others lives via Facebook. When she recently visited my mom, I was able to see her via Facetime.... Love techno...
