Library Themed Party

Is this thing on???? It's been a long time since I've been able to blog. Mostly because of this little guy and life. My life is filled to the brim and I love it. I recently received a comment on my blog that made me want to start this journey again. I may  not be able to  post many times, but I felt maybe someone out there may be looking for an idea for a Library themed party and I wanted to share Little B's.

This past December Little B turned three. He LOVES to read. I figured I would grow on that and have a library themed party for him. All the decor and food were based off of books.  First up the decor :

I picked plates w A, B, C's on them, a Humpty Dumpty plate, ABC letters, a banner with the word "READ" on it made out of a book. I also used some blocks we had and school look fabric for the food bar
He was very, very, excited !

Ordered off of Zazzle and loved how they looked like a vintage library card. I asked everyone to bring a book instead of a card, this way he would keep it forever

I used a book from the dollar store to make the runners on each table, pain staking but worth it !

My hutch, I LOVED how it came out. I used old vintage books I had and a new one too.
And now the food ! Each food item went along with a book. I borrowed some of the books from our local library and some we already had.

Little mouse and the cupcake : cupcakes/ Mini Moo and the mystery of the missing donuts : donuts /  If you give a mouse a cookie : cookies
I ordered these edible cupcake stickers from Etsy, they each have a book print on them

Stinky Cheese Man : assorted cheese and crackers

Secret Pizza Party : pizza rolls / Three Little Pigs : pigs in a blanket

Dragons love Tacos : taco salad / Green Eggs and Ham : Quiche Florentine

Strega Nona : pasta salad / Little Sweet Potato : potato salad

Monsters Don't Eat Broccoli : veggie platter

The cake, well, I thought it would come out better than it did. But I tried ! I ordered a Wilton book cake pan and figured it would work. It came out a bit wonky, but I went with it. What else could I do !!!???  I made a banner from a book and printed "Chapter Three" on it. All in all, Little B loved the cake ! And so did everyone else, at least it tasted good !
My sad attempt on a cake that looks like a book.

So that's a wrap. I may write more from time to time. I do have many things to share. Mostly based w little B. Sad but true, he has become my world for the most part =)

Family

I began to write a posting on July 17, before we knew what God had planned for our sweet Kim.... Kim was taken home that evening to heaven. My entire family is in shock. As I am writing this, tears are running down my face.... Please sweet Jesus watch over Kim, she is safe now with you and is in no pain. Please watch over our family, heal our hearts as we keep Kim alive within ourselves.: "I don't have a very large extended family. Some may think it is, but in reality, it's truly not. I have a few aunts, a few uncles and a few cousins. Most live in different states and many times, communication is sparse. But we are all bonded, in an unspoken way. When one of us is in need, we all speak up and rally. My cousin Kim lives in North Carolina. I have not seen her in "real life" in many years. Maybe the last time was my wedding ? ! But we keep up on each others lives via Facebook. When she recently visited my mom, I was able to see her via Facetime.... Love techno...

A room fit for a beatiful baby boy....

I wrote this post about a week before I had our son. I never posted it to my blog but wanted to share. It's almost been a month since baby B's arrival. Things are still a bit upside down over here, but boy are we in love !!!   It took a bit but it has all finally come together, I have some more final touches but not too much to go.  This is the most modern room in our home, even with it's vintage touches.  It took me a while to figure exactly which direction I wanted to go with in regards to decorating. Bedding was hard because I literally hated everything. I thought I found something on ETSY but once we found out it was a boy, I wanted something a little more boyish. The one thing that I can say always remained constant regardless of the sex of the baby or style of the room,  was the Jenny Lind crib. It's my favorite. Once I figured out what colorings I wanted for the room, I knew the black was the right choice. So here is the breakdown of...

Some plans come undone...

This seems to be the theme of our lives lately but it also fit in to the semi decorating reno I wanted to do in our downstairs bathroom/laundry room. And see that was the question, is it a bathroom or is it a laundry room or heck, is it both? I decided to embrace it and decorate around it being a laundry room. I planned on painting the walls gray and one day I will get around to it. But for now I just used the decorations I had come up with to change it up a bit. Here is the before. And the after... We removed the verticals and hung a valance that we had, we had changed the light fixture months ago to make it flow better with the one above the sink. We also changed the hardware on all the cabinets to silver instead of bronze. We also added a shelf to go above the washer and dryer. This way all the soap, fabric softener and bounce sheets had a new home. I then added decorations that went with the theme of a laundry room. Believe it or not this old washboard was in our shed. Looks like ...
