The $50.00 challenge

It's no secret that this economy is a woozy. Years ago we all made much more money, including myself. This past weekend we headed to Pennsylvania to my moms house. I had budgeted $130.00 to go shopping and then on Thursday that amount quickly lessened to $50.00. Of course at first I was upset because I was working with a small enough amount already, but then I got over it. I decided to challenge myself to see what I could get. Here are some of the items. I think I did quite well.

Here is what I came up with :

An old sugar bowl, two ball jars and a cast iron coat hook. Although it won't be used for coats.

here is where the Ball jars landed, in our laundry room

See them on the right?

Those four items came to $26.00, so there are still some left to go... But this next piece really can not count in the $50.00 since my mom technically bought it for me. But it was with in the price range to equal up to the $50.00 if I would have paid for it myself.
A vintage washboard

Because we have a half bath that is mixed with our washer and dryer, a few months ago I decided to embrace it as a laundry room. I redecorated a bit to make it feel more like a laundry room. I had an old wash board in my shed that we hung and the new addition matched well with it. I couldn't believe my eyes when we hung the second one on just how well it went !  Here is a million views of it in our laundry room/bathroom.

The washboard looks great! You forgot to mention that it is a glass board. Very different and very interesting. It does amaze me that you can see an item and find a perfect place for it! So I need to know what you are doing with the cast iron bird coat hanger!

Some plans come undone...

This seems to be the theme of our lives lately but it also fit in to the semi decorating reno I wanted to do in our downstairs bathroom/laundry room. And see that was the question, is it a bathroom or is it a laundry room or heck, is it both? I decided to embrace it and decorate around it being a laundry room. I planned on painting the walls gray and one day I will get around to it. But for now I just used the decorations I had come up with to change it up a bit. Here is the before. And the after... We removed the verticals and hung a valance that we had, we had changed the light fixture months ago to make it flow better with the one above the sink. We also changed the hardware on all the cabinets to silver instead of bronze. We also added a shelf to go above the washer and dryer. This way all the soap, fabric softener and bounce sheets had a new home. I then added decorations that went with the theme of a laundry room. Believe it or not this old washboard was in our shed. Looks like ...

Lipstick messages

Yesterday was my birthday. Nothing fabulous. At this point of my age, it's just another year older. Nothing monumental, not a new decade, nothing to go crazy about.... But it got me thinking about when my sisters and I were younger, (and anyone else who may have lived here from time to time) my mom would write lipstick messages on our bathroom mirror. Most of the times it would say "Happy Birthday" to us. And if I was having a terrible week , it would be something encouraging like "I love you, have a great day." Well, I definitely miss my lipstick messages. I wish when they were written, we had Facebook or Instagram. What a cool thing to have captured. Here is a picture of what one may have looked like, not ours, but similar.

It's no secret...

that our bodies can do amazing things. Especially us women. It's also no secret that we are almost suffocated with the image of what the "perfect "woman should look like. Does that person really exist in life without a cook, maid, personal trainer, butler, life coach, plastic surgeon, etc. etc? Who knows. What I do know is this, I have seen beautiful women in my life, many of them. And guess what? They are not what are in those photo-shopped magazines. They are just simply beautiful. When we make the decision to have a baby, of course we wonder what is going to happen to our bodies? Will we gain 200lbs? We will get stretch marks? Will we be able to lose the weight we gain? And maybe some don't even worry because they are just happy with being pregnant. For me, I was happy to be pregnant. I was overweight to begin with and my first trimester was a doozie. I ended up losing weight then(don't worry I gained it back) But I didn't gain too much because I had...
