Our babes $40.00 dresser & a very old bookshelf

I knew that I didn't want the traditional changing table nor did I want things to really match perfectly together in his room. At first, I had a french provincial style in my head, but once we found out it was a boy, I felt it was just way too girly. We have a great thrift store by our home, with amazing furniture. Earlier on in my pregnancy my mom and I stopped there while Mr. B went to the gym. Luckily, Mr. B and his truck were down the road from the thrift store when we found this gem. There was even a sale going on and the final price was $40.00 ! Can you believe it? This thing is solid.

Now of course I wanted to take on the task of refinishing it but we do not have a basement or garage and I knew that it may not be the best idea seeing I was pregnant and all. Ya know, fumes etc. So my father in law happily took on the task. I have to say I kid with him that he's a perfectionist, but wow, this was totally impressive. Here is the "new"dresser in all it's glory. Funny story on the color selection. I knew I wanted blue and one day we were at a BBQ at one of our family member's home. This color was inspired by the vinyl siding of their very cool neighbor's home !  So awesome right? Very random I know lol !
Then we have the babe's bookshelf. This bookshelf has been in my family for as long as I can remember and has been many, many different colors. When it was left to us after we bought our home, I painted it what you see here from all yellow. Not bad, but not going to match for our babe's room.
With a little paint (low VOC of course) we have this ! Now I was not as much as a perfectionist with this as my father in law was with the dresser, but I am okay with that, I truly do love it.
And now with the entire shelf filled to the brim ! This babe is one lucky little boy. See all those books? Yea they came from my shower ! So very cool.
More to share soon of the entire room. Just some more finishing touches (i.e curtains and curtain rods) and then we are done. We just need him ! =)

I must admit as a the "Grandma" I was a little concerned that my new grandson's room would not conform to what I had in mind as a baby's room! WOW..is all I can say. I just love every inch of his room. He is one lucky child. He has very unique parents and they have done a wonderful job. As the big event gets closer, chills run up and down my spine. My baby, my little girl is having a baby! Life is amazing..

Some plans come undone...

This seems to be the theme of our lives lately but it also fit in to the semi decorating reno I wanted to do in our downstairs bathroom/laundry room. And see that was the question, is it a bathroom or is it a laundry room or heck, is it both? I decided to embrace it and decorate around it being a laundry room. I planned on painting the walls gray and one day I will get around to it. But for now I just used the decorations I had come up with to change it up a bit. Here is the before. And the after... We removed the verticals and hung a valance that we had, we had changed the light fixture months ago to make it flow better with the one above the sink. We also changed the hardware on all the cabinets to silver instead of bronze. We also added a shelf to go above the washer and dryer. This way all the soap, fabric softener and bounce sheets had a new home. I then added decorations that went with the theme of a laundry room. Believe it or not this old washboard was in our shed. Looks like ...

Tea bag magic

Don't mind this super old picture of our home. This was when we first moved in but I needed to show the coloring of the chair when it was first purchased. We bought this chair from Ikea when we first purchased our home. It was just okay to me but it fit where I wanted so I worked with it for a while. I played around with different pillows and blankets for the chair but nothing ever really felt right. Until recently, when I decided to take off the bottom cushion cover and dye it with tea bags. I have done the application twice and I think I have finally gotten it to the desired coloring. Take a look. Original 1st application 2nd application Another view So maybe now it will feel a bit better in the room. Not sure if I will go for a third application or change up the New York pillow.

Family

I began to write a posting on July 17, before we knew what God had planned for our sweet Kim.... Kim was taken home that evening to heaven. My entire family is in shock. As I am writing this, tears are running down my face.... Please sweet Jesus watch over Kim, she is safe now with you and is in no pain. Please watch over our family, heal our hearts as we keep Kim alive within ourselves.: "I don't have a very large extended family. Some may think it is, but in reality, it's truly not. I have a few aunts, a few uncles and a few cousins. Most live in different states and many times, communication is sparse. But we are all bonded, in an unspoken way. When one of us is in need, we all speak up and rally. My cousin Kim lives in North Carolina. I have not seen her in "real life" in many years. Maybe the last time was my wedding ? ! But we keep up on each others lives via Facebook. When she recently visited my mom, I was able to see her via Facetime.... Love techno...
