Old books for wallpaper??

I think I am in love with this look. But how do you get it off in years to come when you hate it? Some sites say to put it up with Modge Podge and others use wallpaper glue. I am not sure if I am this daring but I know it would look amazing in my guestroom. Hmmm decisions, decisions...

VIA ... not sure where this one is from sorry.. I did a google search...

What I want now and some pretty things...

What I want...

What I want to make ...

This is just plain pretty =)

4th of July decor

So are you having a party or BBQ? I am having a small BBQ with my family this upcoming weekend. Since I love to decorate I thought it would be festive to have a 4th of July decor post. Here are some ideas. I am sure my backyard tables will not look like these, but it's nice to dream what could be !

Stairwell art

Do you have some? Did you do family or personal pictures or artwork? What kind of artwork? Just black and white? Colored? Same colored frame? Different colors?

This was my inspiration picture for mine...

And here is a picture of mine. Which is not as fascinating as my inspiration pic !

Some close ups...

The majority of the artwork came from etsy, most are embroidered or crewel. One was a gift and others were acquired. So what do you think? And should that banister be white lol???

Colored wainscoting

So in our bedroom we would love to add wainscoting like you see here, only issue is we have off white furniture. So I found some pictures of colored wainscoting and I think I am liking the way it looks, especially with the white chair rail. What do you think?

Hutch /həCH/

The definitions of a hutch are the following :

A pen or coop for small animals, especially rabbits.
A cupboard with drawers for storage and usually open shelves on top, often used for dishes
A chest or bin for storage.
A hut

Well I can tell you I am only speaking of two of those definitions. Certainly not one that contains animals !

Do you have a hutch? Do you decorate it? Do you change it around according to season, holiday, or do you just leave it with whatever is on it?

I am decorator. I literally decorate my hutch with a theme or pattern every few months. My hutch was gift from my mother. It was something that has been in my home for many years. She received it as a gift from her mother in law and now it's mine and my husbands... (really just mine, but hey that's ok lol)

Here are some hutches I found via the internet to show you some other people's ideas on how they decorate their own. *** None of these are my photos and I am not quite sure what sites they have come from either as I've done the search on Google search. ****

And here are some pictures of our hutch. Here is one from when we moved in. The walls are quite bare too ! But it gives you an idea of some of the decorating. This is what I call my "May through July" hutch lol

Here is an Easter Hutch. I use some of the same items that I use in May, but of course add some Easter touches. Hard to see I know, these were my mom's pics.

Here is the hutch at Christmas time. Heck yea, I have a white tree !

And last but not least, the women who inspired it all and gave me our hutch as a gift, my mom's hutch at Christmas time. She got this in Lancaster PA. She lives in PA now, and went to Lancaster and had it made for her. It's adorable. She too changes it up for seasons, maybe not at much as me, but she still does it !

I'll update more tomorrow when I take pictures of my current hutch and what I am changing it into for next month.

Bathroom spruce up part duex

The last thing I needed to do was to hang artwork beside the sink. I just had to find the right frame, which I did over the weekend at Target. Here is a lil peek.

The artwork was mentioned in a previous post but here is a picture of it again for a close up. The one I chose for this frame is the first row, second picture. If you are interested in the Etsy seller, look at the previous posting for their info.

The bathroom spruce up

Our bathroom was just alright, but I wanted it to be awesome. So we spruced it up. Here is what we did. I'll try to include sites on where I bought items too.

At first, I wanted to repaint the entire room, but then I realized the paint color I was picking out was quite close to the one we had... so we just did a fresh coat on the walls instead. We also painted the ceiling a certain shade of green that was lighter, but you can't really notice it in pics (points for who knows where that comes from.)

So here are some visuals :

This is our before.. our waaaaaaay before. It shows you the old hardware, the old curtain, and the very old floor. Notice that little peak of brown tile on the wall, yea that is now "gone."

Here is the old curtain, old hardware but the new floor.

Here is the painted tile, new hardware and before the new faucet. Yep we painted tile. I saw the idea on another blog and was very excited. I hated the brown tile, but didn't want to demo the bathroom all that much. Just wanted a quicker spruce up. Well it worked.
I used an oil base Kilz, and then painted over that the next day. Let me tell you, that stuff stinks. It made me very nauseous and I was only doing it for about an hour. Watch out for that stuff, even with the windows open, attic fan on and the bathroom fan on, it was still stinky.

Ta-da, we have a new faucet. My husband rocks my socks with knowing how to do this stuff. Yea I know it may not be "hard" but I would never know how or even where to even start.

This is the faucet we bought, it came from overstock. That's the new towel we bought too. You can see it in the other pics but here is a close up.

So now let's talk shower curtains. Here is the new one in all it's glory. I love it so much and it was not expensive like the ones at Antro. (this pic is w out the new faucet in)
Here is the link to the shower curtain

See the artwork in the mirror, yea super awesome... I will get to that soon. =)

So let's talk hardware. Originally I bought some cool hardware from Homegoods. They were made in India and were green with a paisley-ish print to them. When I put them on they just didn't feel right. So I switched these from our bathroom downstairs to here because it fit in with the bronze accents. They worked and we re-purposed so why not !

Here is the new flusher we chose along with the toilet paper holder and the extra toilet paper storage.
New flusher, sorry no before pics ....

Here is the old toilet paper holder and some of the artwork we used to have in there. You can kind of see the basket on the floor where we used to keep the extra TP.

And here is the new holder and tp storage holder. I yet again repurposed the TP storage from our other bathroom. It worked very well in here.

Ok now to my favorite find. The artwork. I was searching Etsy for a while looking for something to fit in. Originally I had all different ideas of framing vintage wallpaper in white frames. But that didn't seem to fit in with the wood walls, green paint, bronze fixtures, and ivory toilet, sink or tub.... (and curtain for that matter) so I kept looking. Some how I stumbled upon these amazing photo postcards that blew me away. They are even more amazing in person. We knew we didn't want to do another collage of pics because we have a collage in our stairway and one in our bedroom. So we bought two frames that could hold three 4 x 6 pics. I love the way they look. Here is the pic of them in our house, the seller's pic so you can see them up close and the link to the seller.

The fantastic seller

We only framed 6 so I have 3 more. I plan on getting one more single 4 x 6 frame tonight to hang on the side our sink. I also think I will get a tissue box cover to cover the box on the counter. More pics to follow

Thanks for checking it out !
